Protect your crawlspace before winter
August 6, 2026
Every fall, wildlife looks for warm and dry space. Crawlspaces offer both, plus easy access to insulation and ductwork.
Start with the foundation vents. Original louvered vents rust and break, leaving gaps wide enough for rats and snakes. Replacing them with reinforced units is inexpensive and permanent.
Check the crawlspace door for a tight seal and solid frame. Look for gaps where pipes and wiring pass through the block.
Trim branches back from the roof, keep firewood away from the foundation, and secure trash containers. Wildlife that cannot find a way in usually moves on.
